Tankerville - Bartender's Lament
Words by Isobel Buckley

We’re stoked to premiere the brand new clip from Melbourne punk-rock powerhouse Tankerville – not for the faint-hearted, ‘Bartender’s Lament’ is two minutes of chaos that doesn’t really need an introduction.
Combining forces from Cherrywood, Bodies and Graveyard Train, Tankerville bring the heat with their heavy and wild tunes. They’re back with ‘Bartender’s Lament’ and they’re not messing around. This terse track wraps up in less than a minute, which is just enough time to figure out what has gone on in the accompanying video clip. Featuring the band in their iconic workplace, The Old Bar, ‘Bartender’s Lament’ pretty much touches on every hospo worker’s anguish in one rapid clip.

Ahead of their show tonight at the Blowhole, we had a chat with guitarist/vocalist Joel Morrison to find out what the hell we just watched.
TJ: G’day Tankerville, I kinda feel like the need for formalities has been thrown out the window after that clip, but still, would you like to tell us a bit about yourself?

T: G'day mate. I think everyone either knows us or knows the feeling of going to the Tankerville at 3am and that's pretty close to what it's like knowing us anyway.

The song and clip pretty much speak for themselves, so I don’t really have to ask about it. Which band member thought that was a good idea?

We always collaborate with our famous director/producer Christoph from Defero Productions. This one pretty much wrote itself though so I don't know what his exorbitant fee was about. You get what you pay for though. Plus we had to buy Chris (drums) a trailer. Not for anything to do with this though.

I really like The Old Bar, and I think you do, but I’m also not sure now. Do you?

You know how people say places like the Old Bar are their spiritual home? For us it's just home. They're also our sponsor.

What do you say to people who think you’re too loud?

No one has ever said that. If they had, I haven't heard them over Chow's amp.

I reckon that song about eBay is clearly the best Tankerville song. Weigh in.

True. It is our best song. It's uplifting and empowering and I (Joel) get to confess some horrible stuff I've done to make everyone feel better about being pieces of shit human garbage. Which we all pretty much are. Just remember Tankerville and eBay love you.

What have you guys got coming up next?

A show tonight at The Blowhole with best mates Shrimpwitch and a reso at the Tote later in the year. We're releasing an album soon hopefully and more film clips and limited edition t-shirts which are just other Melbourne band’s t-shirts that I've just crossed out their name and replaced it with Tankerville. Plus I'm gonna have dinner later tonight.

Check out the new clip for 'Bartender's Lament' above, and catch Tankerville tonight, July 14th, at The Blowhole with Shrimpwitch.
