Life Strike - Pages
Words by James Lynch
Friday 19th July, 2019
Following on from the release of their single ‘Pages’ earlier this month, jangly post punks Life Strike have shared a hazy new clip to match the track’s irreverent warble and lo-fi charm, as they gear up for the release of their debut album in a few weeks' time.
While their debut 7” EP was a collection of blown-out and erratic punk nuggets, the first taste of Life Strike’s debut album finds the band cooling things off slightly, as they lean into their Flying Nun influences to create a dose of breezy garage-pop.

Built around a languid groove and filled out with a chiming guitar and wistful violin, the track cruises along as bassist/vocalist Nick Pratt weaves a buoyant melody with his unassuming voice. It’s not all bright and sunny though - lyrically, Pratt sings of a writer burning his work away, and the darker themes are heightened as the band detour into a stark bridge, Pratt’s melodies instantly become more ominous. However, the band shift back just as quickly, and ride the track out with some pleasant jangles and loose slacker charm.

Today we have the brand new clip to share, created by guitarist/vocalist Patrick McCabe. Filmed at South Australia’s Blue Lake, the clip does well to mirror the track’s atmosphere, pairing the hazy filters and blissful scenery with slow, sweeping shots of the band wandering around aimlessly, or the occasional shot of the members looming over the camera eerily.

Check out the clip for 'Pages’ above, and catch Life Strike launching the single tomorrow, July 20th, at the Retreat from 3pm.
