pting - Boo

Alongside the announcement of their forthcoming EP of the same name, today we’re thrilled to be premiering pting’s new single ‘Boo’ - a jangle-pop punch coupled with tentative yet coy lyricism.
Following on from playful ’New House’, local sweethearts pting are back with the next taste of their second EP Boo. This time around, the summery atmosphere defies the track’s themes, which plays as an open-letter to someone from another point in your life. Guitarist/vocalist Elsie Lange shares “it’s about desperately missing a mate, or someone you fell out with, and being so happy to know them again even if it hurts a bit and you still haven’t figured it out. It’s about how scary it is that things can slip away and come back as easily as they do, and about embracing ya own feelings and working through them. So… friendship? Growth? Adapting to change?”

After bursting open with rich guitar jangles and a driving backbeat, ‘Boo’ quickly heads into less self-assured territory. We can almost feel the apprehension in Elsie’s vocals at the first verse, or her relief in the soaring chorus, and in place of a second verse we’re served a beautifully endearing spoken word that drips with honest uncertainty. The track is very much reflective of this wholesome outpouring of vulnerability, yet still comes packed with pting's signature charm, as guitarist Rhys Renwick admits “in this song I have two guitar solos and I only messed (them) up a little bit which is really exciting”. We reckon the solos were pretty bang-on though.

This is the true joy of the band and their music - with tracks as real and human as this, it’s like a familiar hug from an old friend.
