Speed Dating:
Bares, Babyccino, Mannequin Death Squad and
Spoilsport Records
Saturday 18th April, 2020
New love has certainly been put on hold in recent times, with musicians and listeners alike confined to their homes, separated from their heart's desire. We at Trouble Juice wanted to do our part to reignite a little romance in the air, so we’ve reignited an old segment.

This week we get to know indie mastermind Bares, lo-fi pop trio Babyccino, unapologetic grunge two-piece Mannequin Death Squad and local legends Spoilsport Records.

Bares

Where do we know you from?

If you grab a high powered military grade telescope, and look at the second star to the right and straight on till morning, I should be floating around waving back at you, if I have the time.

What do you do with yourself?
I like to go to Woolies and put lost products back on the correct shelves, and then send invoices for my time to the head office. I am working towards releasing some birds from my bathroom, also some music.

Phone call or text?
I’m that terrible person who calls because I’m too lazy to type.

What is your most useless skill?
Nine times out of ten I become completely invisible but only in the dark and when no one is watching.

Got any spare band names?
Beethoven’s Banana Balm - a 70’s inspired funk/classical music fusion.

What’s your perfect Sunday?
I'd have to say, April 25th because it’s not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket!

Babyccino

Where do we know you from?
I was environment captain in primary school. What can I say? Lights.

What do you do with yourself?
Study, play music, eat… I guess also sanitise, wash my hands and stay inside!

Would you rather face 100 duck-sized elephants or one elephant-sized duck?
I think I would probably face an elephant-sized duck. I know that ducks enjoy bread, and so do I. I could charm it with a loaf of sourdough and maybe we could become friends?

Best iso binge show?
Just started watching this underrated show on Netflix called Baby Ballroom. It's about these children who learn ballroom dancing, essentially a wholesome British version of Dance Moms. Its just one of those shows that you can do chores or something at the same time as watching, and you still know what is going on.

Do you believe in love?
Yes! I love my dog Romeo very much.

What’s your perfect Sunday?
Wake up late, coffee and eggs for breakfast, then hang out with my friends at a park or something. Recently though in isolation; I have been knitting scarves for all my mates!

Mannequin Death Squad

Where do we know you from?
Probably from the drive through at Hoddle street Hungry Jacks.

What do you do with yourself?
Edit music videos, eat hommus, rinse-repeat.

Fender or Gibson guitars?
Fender strats all the way. 90's grunge eat your heart out.

What is your most unique and underrated skill?
We are both really good at coming up with children's book ideas late at night, without ever following through with them.

How have you been keeping busy?
Elz has been cutting up every vegetable in the fridge, manically trying to re-plant them in preparation for the apocalypse. Dan has been kickboxing and watching Tiger King every day.

What’s your perfect Sunday?
Not working for penalty rates. And also spending the entire day in a London pub eating vegan Sunday roast with good company...

Check out our new song and clip One Way Ticket . It perfectly sums up isolation. 🙂 🙂 🙂 \m/ \m/ \m/ xxx

Spoilsport Records

Where do we know you from?
Probably either the line at Zambrero’s or my new and soon to be viral twitter @seshweapon.

What do you do with yourself?
I run a small little label called Spoilsport Records. Play in a few bands around Melbourne. One voice out of two on The Rat Race Podcast and Tribal Council w/ James and Sam. Work as a labourer doing air conditioning and refrigeration. Watch Cats (2019) daily.

Best time killer?
Pursuing a career in music.

What’s the last lie you told?
I told a whole bunch of people that I was researching pie prices in the Caribbean. Not sure why I was doing it but I made up this whole thing about how Trinidad had pies for AUD$1 and Barbados had pies for AUD$2. But at the end of it I told them that those are the pie rates of the Caribbean. Sorry.

If it was your week for show and tell, what would you bring?
My new scarf/blanket/patch of wool that I am currently knitting with guidance from my mum over Facebook video call.

What’s your perfect Sunday?
I wake up, have a big fry up of veggies on some form of bread, pour myself an orange juice and a coffee and then just sit in my small backyard and watch the day go.

Stay tuned for more Speed Dating every Saturday arvo.
