After a short break, indie-rock brothers Mother Culture are officially back tomorrow with their first new music in over a year - with its dirty guitars and pumping rhythm, ‘Something’s In The Water It Seems’ is a commanding return that’ll definitely stick with you.
Mother Culture have been crafting infectious indie/psych rock for a few years now, with a back catalogue of demos and singles (such as ‘Bedside Slowdance’ and ‘Fuzzface’) that will surely get you moving. After a short hiatus, Darcy and Spencer Ward are back as a duo, and their new track ‘Something’s In The Water It Seems’ was well worth the wait.

The track opens with an ambient beach soundscape which creates the nostalgic memory of lying under the Australian sun, holding a cold beer in one hand and a tube of SPF-50 in the other. Next thing you know, the memories and ambiance are broken with the introduction of distorted guitars and a driving drumbeat, forcing you up off your towel up to jump up and down as if the sand were burning your feet instead. The song slowly builds as Darcy’s loud and passionate vocals soar over the guitar riffs - and with melodies as addictive as these, you’ll be sure to have this track stuck in your head for days.

The brothers work independently writing, producing and mixing every sound you hear from within the depths of their home studio and this track is evident of their passion and dedication to their music. ‘Something’s In The Water It Seems’ holds every good piece of indie-rock, dance-pop and psychedelia and becomes the perfect blend to scream with your mates on drives in the summer. However, beneath its sunny atmosphere and compelling hooks, the band reveal the track to be a little more turbulent, as they explain; “'Something's In The Water It Seems' tells the story of an unsettling situation, where ignorance is prevailing as a coping mechanism until confrontation is squeezed out into the listeners’ ears.”

'Something's In The Water It Seems' is out in all the usual places tomorrow.
