Reality Instructors - Finished In My Head

With their upcoming EP due to be released on the 30th of June, Reality Instructors have gifted us their second and final single release from the forthcoming drop - ‘Finished In My Head’ is a frenetic post-punk blitz that doubles as a powerful insight into vocalist Dan Pash’s experiences with hearing loss.
With the reality of imminent deafness looming, Dan Pash, the masterful songwriter behind Reality Instructors, has set out to defy his genetic degenerative condition with the continual creation and production of music. His group’s latest single ‘Finished In My Head’ is no exception - backed by a sinewy and propulsive instrumental, the track explores the notion of internal recognition and understanding when it comes to accessing a relationship with the intrinsic rather than auditory affirmation.

The track asserts itself from the get-go, with an introduction littered with a series of singularly strummed power chords overlaid with lyrics that outline the difficulty of communication experienced when the perceived commodity of auditory perception is not accessible. 30 seconds in, the steady pulse of the bass and an equally steadfast drumbeat emerge, and Pash is forced to pick up the pace, his strumming and vocals meeting the tempo increase to propel the song further forwards. For the remainder of the song, Reality Instructors serve up an effortless harmonisation between the band’s three components, culminating in the hybrid of early post-punk and contemporary indie-rock that feels as exciting as it is reminiscent.

A punchy addition to the already released ‘I’m Enrolled’, Reality Instructors' new EP The Timeless Threat Of… is shaping up to be a thrilling, yet just as eye-opening, sonic journey.
The Timeless Threat of... is out on Wednesday June 30th through Eternal Memos - head to realityinstructors.bandcamp.com to pre-order the EP on limited vinyl.
