It Thing - Dress Code

Back with their first new music since 2019, Hobart-based garage-punk outfit It Thing have returned with a punchy new single ‘Dress Code,’ the first glimpse to their anticipated nine-track EP Syrup, out November 26 on Marthouse Records.
Formed in Hobart’s beloved Brisbane Hotel beer garden, It Thing have developed a reputation for fierce and blistering live shows with a powerful image. Following a couple singles in 2019, the band’s new track ‘Dress Code’ fuses the unapologetic extravagance of classic new wave bands like the Motels and the B-52’s with the speedy combative nature of punk giants like the Ramones and Bad Brains with an added kiss-off quality.

Clocking in just under two-minutes, ‘Dress Code’ is hooky yet hard-edged and fast-paced power pop at its finest. While addressing themes of exclusivity and control, It Thing cruise through the dose of social commentary on the tightly-zipped single with their relentless power chords and pounding beat that’s maximized for abrasive bliss, echoing a sense of empowerment.

Speaking about the new single, frontwoman Charlotte Gavan-Glover says “it’s inspired by bothersome neighbours who involve you in the ins-and-outs of their daily domestic spats.” Fittingly, it’s raucous, unruly and totally relentless, and points to thrilling things to come from their forthcoming debut EP.
'Dress Code' is out today, ahead of the release of It Thing's debut EP Syrup on Friday November 26th through Marthouse Records - head to itthing.bandcamp.com to pre-order the EP on limited edition splattered vinyl.
