Anti-Violet - Heat Stroke
Local beach-punks Anti-Violet are back today with a brand new clip for ‘Heat Stroke’ and we’re real stoked to be premiering it - it’s a whacked-out beach adventure which plays along perfectly with the equally fried track.
It’s been about six months since we last heard from Anti-Violet, but they’re back today with a new clip for their last single ‘Heat Stroke’. If you need a reminder, the track was a slice of warped garage-rock, brimming with summery melodies and lo-fi chaos. I’m not really sure how they’ve done it, but the new clip is just as fried. Showcasing a family who can’t exactly handle everything the beach has to offer, and complete with melted faces and aggro seagulls, it’s a bizarre clip that probably just needs to be watched to be understood. To celebrate the new video, we caught up with Ashlin and Hayley from the band to find out what they’ve been up to.
TJ: Hey Anti-Violet, last time we spoke was December when you'd just released ‘Heat Stroke’. How's the last six months been?
Ashlin: The last six months of our lives have been thrown around like a beach volleyball between six muscular tanned men.
Hayley: I don't know what that means haha. Mostly we've been playing gigs, the boys have been secretly recording in Ashlin's bedroom too.
The new clip is pretty whacked-out. Want to tell us how it came together?
Hayley: It almost never happened! Ashlin just had this idea of our faces melting, and with Jeremy he wrote a treatment with this whole wacky story. But then we never had the time to film it. Months later we finally crawled out of bed early one morning, went to the beach, had weird-smelling gelatinous goo glued to our faces and just went for it. I had sand EVERYWHERE for days afterwards.
It's the second time you've worked with Jeremy Teh on an Anti-Violet clip - how'd this relationship come about?
Hayley: I met Jeremy in the uni film club and instantly fell in love with his quirky lo-fi edits. I think him and Ashlin have a very similar mind for all things kooky.
Rumour has it that you're currently finishing up your next EP. Got any goss for us?
Ashlin: The EP has been a slow process of procrastination. I'm trying to consume copious amounts of eggs to use the egg cartons to soundproof my bedroom vocal booth. Once that's done we'll record the vocals. Eggy vocals. But coming soon.
What's coming up next for Anti-Violet?
We're playing a free gig at The Spotted Mallard tomorrow night with legends pting and The Mochasins, and word on the street is Common Cult are about to announce another birthday party show (you didn't hear it from us!). With any luck we'll pump out more music videos too!
