LoVision - Rosa Blüte
LoVision - Rosa Blüte
Thanks to our friends at Stargazed Records, we’re excited to premiere the new single and video from local experimental duo LoVision - ‘Rosa Blüte’ is an otherworldly soundscape full with hypnotic drones and ethereal vocals, and the accompanying clip is as unnerving as it is captivating.
Ahead of the release of their debut album, out through audio-visual trailblazers Stargazed Records, electro-goths LoVision have just released ‘Rosa Blüte’ and given fans a final teaser before ULTRASOUND officially drops this Friday. The track opens slowly with waves of effected vocals, which steadily rise and warp before they float off into the peripheries. After a moment, a dark drone enters accompanied by a hypnotic beat and ‘Rosa Blüte’ is transformed - if the vocals once sounded airy and lucid, they’re now eerily haunting, and the track becomes a mind-melting wall of oscillating sound. The next minutes finds us bombarded by morphing synths and otherworldly noises, and it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what is going on. However, despite the intangible nature of the track, the dense layers of sound manage to seep through our consciousness and hit on a deeper level, in a way that feels both unnerving and powerfully emotive.
The new single is paired with a striking video clip, created by new film studio Deyus Films and freaky visual artist Hyperwave. The clip seems to perfectly accompanying the sounds that LoVision build on ‘Rosa Blüte’, with warped visuals constantly flickering and faltering throughout, never once moving in a way that would be likely or comforting. The outcome is spectacular, and while things feel somewhat disjointed and unsettling, it’s a clip that is incredibly difficult to look away from throughout. To celebrate the new single and video, as well as the upcoming album, we had a chat with Lucas and Kim from LoVision to find out all about the project.

TJ: For the uninitiated, what’s the story behind LoVision?
Lucas: Kim and I met a couple of years ago through a mutual friend, Lexi Laphor. The first time we met I saw Kim singing jazz standards in Brunswick. I was pretty fragile at the time, and it was so beautiful it made me cry. As soon as she got off stage, I asked her to sing on some music I had been working on by myself and was looking for another singer for. Then I got shy, because she was just so good and I had only just begun making electronic music, so I didn't follow it up. A couple of months later she was over at my house to see our friend while I was doing the initial filming for the 'BeachBall' video, she came and knocked on my door and asked me to send the song to her without even realising that this was the music I had wanted us both to work on. So working together really started off by chance and as a mutual admiration for each other’s music. We knew basically nothing about each other when we started except for that, and the last two years have been as much a process of getting to know each other as they have been experimenting with ideas and working out what we sound like.
Want to tell us a bit about the ‘Rosa Blüte’ and the new clip?
Kim: 'Rosa Blüte' is a kind of alter ego born from the shadows of my past. Rosa Blüte translates to “pink blossom" in German and this shadow character is equal parts cute and creepy. Her themes are thick with sexual paranoia and hypnotic rage. She represents a psychedelic exploitative experience of the feminine kind. A poster girl for a used up reflection that still holds a lover’s message close to her heart. "All your desires lead to doom". The video is a collaboration with independent film company Deyus Films, with the visuals being done by Hyperwave. It is a colourful, geometric nightmare featuring anime, meditation and, of course, Rosa herself.
You’ve got your debut album dropping at the end of the week - how’s the build up towards the release been?
Kim: I can’t wait to actually be able to share this stuff! We’ve been gigging most of the songs on this album for over a year and it is nice to have something tangible in sight! We are very excited to share this album and to get stuck into album number two.
Lucas: It has been a lot of work. We did almost everything by ourselves, and we are both perfectionists so sometimes it has been overwhelming. But since we got the masters done and the album is all ready things feel very easy. It is all flowing together, we are working with people we really respect musically and for their personalities, and even though there is a lot going on leading up to our launch on Friday, it all feels really great. It has been a amazing experience putting this thing together, and yeah, like Kim said, it has all made me doubly excited to get to work on album two.
You’ve also just recently announced that you’ve signed to Stargazed Records, a new label who specialise in acts that focus on connecting audio and visuals. What is significant about combining different mediums in LoVision?
Lucas: We are essentially an audio-visual project. After we got used to playing together and felt it out a bit, we realised that we are trying to make is something that is completely immersive for the audience, so last year I taught myself how to build equipment that would allow me to control my drum machine and synthesizers at the same time as controlling projected visuals. Now all of our tracks have a visual accompaniment which is just as necessary to the songs as the music itself. So when Stargazed approached us a few months back and made it clear that they loved what we were doing and that audio-visual stuff was their focus as a label it just seemed right. Doing this stuff in the way that we are is a fairly new niche that comes from having access to modern technology, and it gives us opportunities to explore new territory and really feel out and discover what kind of effect the combination of sound and vision can have on an audience. The people at Stargazed understand our needs as a band and are helping us to make what we have imagined become a real thing.
What’s coming up next for LoVision?
Lucas: Apart from playing shows we have a lot of things planned as far as recording and making visuals. We have another ten or so tracks which didn't make it onto the album, we will be releasing those over the next few months as well as videos for the other singles on the album. We also have a whole collection of new ideas which have had to be put on hold while we have been finishing this album. We are both excited to go through that stuff and pick out what we want to finish and also to get back to what we do best, trying out fresh ideas and seeing what comes of them. We have been talking about where we want to go with the next album, and we are both feeling very inspired by that. Expect to see a lot of stuff coming out from us in the near future.
