Pinch Points - The Making of 'Moving Parts'
Following the release of Moving Parts in late May, local garage-punks Pinch Points have given us a peek behind the curtain with a new mini-doco that immortalises the creation of their wiry and erratic debut album.
The last time we wrote about Pinch Points we described them as workhorses - but even that descriptor is hardly fitting enough, considering the smile-punk crew got started on their debut album on New Year’s Day. With a laidback atmosphere in the air which almost seems at odds with the terse chaos heard across the record, the Making of documentary reveals a band who seem perfectly comfortable and willing to get on with the job while the rest of us might still be in bed.
Between shots of the band blasting through moments that would eventually make up Moving Parts, we’re offered a brief glimpse into the mechanics of Pinch Points - their sharp focus as they propel through each take, the playful banter between recording, and their supportive camaraderie as they undergo more serious conversations, whether that’s going through intense business documents or discussing unwarranted harassment, a topic that crops up at multiple instances across the record. However, the biggest thrill from the doco is seeing the band’s rise firsthand - from guitarist Jordan Oakley struggling to wrap his head around unpredictable arrangements early in the piece, all the way through to the album's release and their huge launch show at the Northcote Social Club.

Moving Parts is out now on Roolette Records. Catch Pinch Points tomorrow night, July 25th, upstairs at The Tote supporting LVIV at their 'Young Libs' single launch, before they hit the road with Tropical Fuck Storm throughout October.
