Furlong - Eloquently
Words by Francis Tait
Thursday 19th September, 2019
‘Eloquently’, the second single from Melbourne based grunge-pop specialists Furlong is a forthright, unflinching serving of shiny alt-rock that we have the honour of ushering into the world, before its official launch at the Esplanade Hotel on the 5th of October.
Having met via Facebook, with members converging in Melbourne from Birmingham, rural New Zealand and Port Macquarie, grunge hard-hitters Furlong have just dropped ‘Eloquently’, their most polished blast of propulsive alternative rock to date.

‘Eloquently’ marks the first release from Furlong for a little while, and they’ve wasted no time getting back to their loudest. Following a brooding intro where vocalist Andrea McKenzie is given ample room to snatch your attention from anything else that may be competing for it, ’Eloquently’ quickly explodes into a heavy pop-rock outburst that’d fare just as well in a dive bar as it would in the headphones of an angsty teenager.

On the track’s introspective lyricism that often reads like a heated diary entry, Andrea elaborates, “‘Eloquently’ is about one sided relationships. Being with someone who's dragging you along in a loveless union to stroke their ego and keep them busy. Knowing that it’s not going to last, but you stick around anyways because you're all fragile and can't break away. There's always that off chance they'll finally feel the same feelings, but they never do. The title came from wanting someone to just tell you straight that your relationship is nothing major and a waste of time, to have it put eloquently.“

Have a listen to 'Eloquently' above, and catch Furlong launching the new track at The Espy on Saturday, October 5th.
