Today we have the pleasure of premiering the brand new single and clip from local favourites pting - ‘New House’ is a blast of charming garage-pop, and the new clip perfectly captures the track’s spirit, highlighting a band who clearly love each other’s company.
Off the back of a packed first half of the year, which saw the band constantly popping up on great lineups around Melbourne with a bunch of impressive support slots alongside the likes of Stella Donnelly and Moaning Lisa, the last few months have seen pting fall uncharacteristically quiet. However, as it turns out they’ve been bunkered away working on new music, treating us to the first taste of what’s coming next with ‘New House’ today.

Picking up where last year’s Beep Beep EP left off, ‘New House’ finds pting leaning into their pop smarts while refusing to ignore the fact that at their core, they’re just a very fun band. After a chiming guitar intro, the track bursts into a buoyant groove as frontwoman Elsie Lange wraps a crystalline melody around the shimmering layers. Brimming with charm from the get-go, it’s hard not to become completely captivated by the track’s playful atmosphere, Elsie bounding with energy as she describes the new lifestyle shifts that come with moving home.

While others might find the experience of moving to be frustrating or tedious, Elsie’s take is overwhelmingly positive, as she explains “the track is about having space again. There's something very constricting about living in an apartment in the city after growing up in such a big, arid, wide open place like Central Australia. The joy of making a place your own, having that autonomy, is so huge for a desert kid like me. Community is a huge factor, themes like making cumquat jam or having working bees are all about making a space sing with community spirit and love. That's what i had in Alice and that's what I love about my new home - which I share with a few kids from Alice too!!”

Fittingly, the new clip finds pting goofing around at the house in question, and doesn’t really need to do much to match the contagious spirit of the song, except show the band comfortable in their natural habitat. Elsie continues “the film clip just wants to capture all of the joy we feel as friends in this home, coming and going and growing. Mickey Mason (who I live with) literally made the clip in an afternoon, because he knew what to get on camera - just us.”
