Kill Bell - Not On Loop
Words by James Lynch
Wednesday 25th September, 2019
Following on from their debut single in May, Kill Bell are back with ‘Not On Loop’, a blast of dynamic indie-punk that effortlessly toes the line between captivatingly calm and hard-hitting.
Off the back of the turbo-charged ‘Baby’, ‘Not On Loop’ finds Kill Bell turning down the heat to serve up something with a more placid temperament, although it still managing to pack a punch while they’re at it.

Opening with vocalist/bassist Charlie Pass’ intoxicating voice at the forefront, the track expands open with an unhurried backbeat as warm garage-rock chords spiral around Charlie’s snappy melodies. Just as we’re being lulled into a trance by the track’s hypnotic groove, Kill Bell shift into a thunderous chorus, shocking us with a wall of fuzzed-out guitar and pounding drums as Charlie sounds more commanding than ever. Following an erratic guitar break, the band pick up that familiar groove again. However, while the relaxed atmosphere feels effortlessly cool on them, it’s clear they’re a band that can’t resist cranking the distortion, because once again, the track turns and after a frenzied outdo, ’Not On Loop’ blasts away.

Speaking about the track, the band explain “we wanted to write a song that was our ‘ballad’ in the set. Our live show needed a song where we could catch our breath and play something a little slower and more melodic. That being said, the song still features heavily distorted guitars, pounding drums and a vocal melody reminiscent of something you might hear on a Kim Gordon album, so not sure if we succeeded entirely on our brief! Regardless, we love the end result.”
