Today we’re stoked to be premiering the brand new film clip from local garage trio The Mother Gurus - ‘As Far As I Can Tell (Papercut)’ is a blast of high-octane skate-punk, with a clip that bursts with playful charm and hazy 90s vibes.

Following on from a handful of singles dropped over the last few years, The Mother Gurus returned in June with ‘As Far As I Can Tell (Papercut)’, the first taste of their forthcoming debut album.

Built with layers of scuzzy guitars and a propulsive rhythm section, ‘As Far As I Can Tell’ instantly picks up where the previous releases left off and blasts us with a barrage of noise. The track quickly shifts into a classic pop-punk mould, driven by the band’s manic energy while frontman Henry Dempsey sucks us in with his raucous vocals. By the 1:30 mark we’re completely hooked, but just as we think it’s reached an end, we’re thrown for a loop as the track warps and splutters before fading away.

The new clip, created by local filmmaker Jack Ralph, finds the band hanging out and performing at the home of bassist Lars Dempsey. Shot on super 8 film and VHS, the clip brims with 90’s nostalgia, and it’s difficult to keep ourselves from grinning as we watch the band having as much fun as they are. Matching the music perfectly, the visuals simultaneously freak out as the track hits its mind-melting outro, and we’re momentarily immersed in a swirl of trippy effects and colour.

Speaking about the clip, the band share “we wanted to capture Lars’ home in all of its glorious grubbiness, with quick interchanging shots filled with as much interesting stuff from around the house as we could fit into the short time frame of the tune. We’re really happy with the end result and hope people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
