Today we’re excited to premiere ‘Inhibitions’ from Melbourne act Pollyman, a new single that showcases a more tender side of their glorious power-pop sound.
It feels like Pollyman is way beyond his 20 years. ‘Inhibitions’, the latest single from George Wilson’s Melbourne three piece, soaks in his palpable admiration for late 70’s rock and power-pop hooks, while establishing the group as one of real ability and exciting talent. Having played in bands like The Tiny Giants and Bones & Jones since early high school, Wilson is no stranger to projects that embody bold ambition, and this learned confidence is calmly and assuredly delivered on his latest single.

Not only in Pollyman does Wilson substitute his usual instrument, the drumkit (in steps older brother Fenn for that) for Zeppelin-like guitar work, but there’s also a freedom to his impressive vocals that feels transportive. His performative vocal delivery pulses with energy, matching the band as bassist Alister Hull locks in devilishly well with the brothers while the odd overdubbed percussive embellishments provide a psychedelic tinge to the track. Despite the group’s bold focus, Wilson's lyrics remain vulnerable and candid - although his voice soars at the track’s dreamlike crescendo, the yelled “I’m weighted down!” reveal the refrain to be both a sensitive plea and a wild outburst at once.

The accompanying video clip is just as fun as the song, jumping between beautifully located backdrops with subtle special effects that compliment the tracks’ inherent ode to psychedelic rock music. These ingredients all work coherently within ‘Inhibitions’ - it’s bold enough to be believable but restrained in its instrumentation and rhythm, highlighting Pollyman’s versatility and ensuring they’re one to watch well into the future.
