The Brungas - Places/Jump In
Alt-rock seven-piece The Brungas have just announced one more release for the year, and have given us a sneaky first listen before it officially drops tomorrow.
Off the back of a huge 2019, The Brungas are rounding out the year with one more treat - a double single made up of two certified live favourites that their fans have almost forced them to release before the year’s out. With reference points from DMAs to The Smiths and even The Beatles, The Brungas repeatedly display an ability to delve deep into relatable feelings or situations, which is no different on their latest offering.
Showcasing their eye for clever songwriting, ‘Places’ delivers a sun drenched soundscape packed with shimmering guitars and uplifting keys, while frontman Ned Hawkins develops an authentic bond with the listeners thanks to his honest and iconic lyrics. A sumptuous and bittersweet indie-rock track, ‘Places’ is balanced out by the anthemic ‘Jump In’. Opening with some calming acoustic guitar, the track gradually builds into woozy psychedelia with some silky guitar solos before finally concluding with a gangbuster climax, that bursts with undeniable grooves and mesmerising vocoder hooks.
It’s a fitting way to wrap up such a solid year, with saw the band gigging all over Victoria at crowd spilling venues. With a heap of sold out shows in there, their 2019 highlights include a charity gig for Leukemia which they hosted at the Yorkshire Hotel, as well as their Tarantino/Scorsese/Ritchie-inspired music video for ‘Hide & Stay’, which you can watch below.
