The Stained Daisies - Sit Long In The Silence
As they wrap up an extensive summer tour this weekend, local rock ’n’ rollers The Stained Daisies have shared ‘Sit Long In The Silence’, a dose of their evocative retro-rock and a stunning first taste of their debut album.
If their amounting back catalogue is anything to go by, The Stained Daisies know their way around a tight, grimy rocker. Over their six years of existence, they’ve managed to drop two EPs and a string of singles, each bursting at the seams with propulsive grooves, ferocious energy and plenty of rock ’n’ roll swagger. However, with their debut album finally on the way, ‘Sit Long In The Silence’ finds the band testing their restraint without relinquishing their classic rock smarts.
Opening with a backdrop of swirling guitar noise against some gentle finger-picking, ‘Sit Long In The Silence’ slowly expands with a lilting groove, the guitars sprawling to creative an illusively evocative soundscape. When vocalist Daniel Tuite steps in however, it becomes clear we’ve been had - instead of emerging from the haze into a bluesy verse as we might expect, the track shifts towards glorious 60’s pop. Almost venturing into ballad territory, Daniel weaves a charming melody as a piano chimes, the instrumentation simmering underneath - and when the band do turn the heat up once again at the chorus, the track remains buoyed in nostalgia.
Speaking about the track, Daniel shares ‘Sit Long In The Silence’ “acknowledges the necessity to beat the self doubting self into submission”, and this beating finally reveals itself in the form of a striking guitar solo that rides the track out. As the fiery solo tangles amongst the ebbing instrumentation, an atmosphere emerges that feels both commanding and wearisome, and as the glimmering piano chords fade to the sound of lethargic group vocals, we’re exposed to the full array of emotions that self-doubt and anxiety often brings to the surface.
