Today we’re thrilled to be premiering the debut single from Melbourne blues-punk powerhouse Matt Bourke and the Delusional Drunks - ‘An Ode To My Future’ is a blast of raucous rock ’n’ roll that bursts with unnerving grit and monstrous energy.
After spending the last couple of years blowing roofs off pubs from the surf coast to Melbourne, Matt Bourke and the Delusional Drunks have finally shared a first taste of their powerful sound on record. Capturing the manic energy of their live show, ‘An Ode To My Future’ is more of a punch in a guts than a friendly introduction to the emerging group.

Opening in a relatively restrained manner, ‘An Ode To My Future’ expands ominously with some muted guitar scruffs as Matt stretches out his raw vocals - first with a low sung-spoken ramble that grows more and more unhinged as the track progresses. All the while, the instrumentation continues to twist and evolve underneath, until the band finally emerge into a swampy sprawl of noise, as Matt howls alongside guest vocalist Chitra.

After a couple of minutes of incessant building, ‘An Ode To My Future’ subsides and a quiet sense of calm replaces the tension. However, the relief is only momentary, and the band blast back in at their most furious, into a tangle of frenzied lapsteel and chaotic guitar as a stomping backbeat thunders underneath. As thrilling as it is dangerous, the band swerve into one last menacing chorus, just before ‘An Ode To My Future’ staggers back into the darkness that it emerged from, like a hazy, haunted memory.

Get stuck into 'An Ode To My Future' above, and catch Matt Bourke and the Delusional Drunks launching the new single on Thursday, April 2nd, at The Old Bar.
