Furlong - Hate Girls
Local alt-rockers Furlong are back with their first new music of the year - a grungy track which comes packed with plenty of distortion and an attitude, ‘Hate Girls’ is a celebration of enemies.
If you are looking for a song to blast in your earphones on your way to work while feeling like the badass protagonist of a late 90’s film, do we have the track for you! Following the release of ‘Eloquently’ late last year, ‘Hate Girls’ marks Furlong's powerful return before they officially launch the track on March 13 at the Tote.
Packed with attitude and grunge rock sensibilities, ‘Hate Girls’ instantly turns up the heat with tight, distorted guitars and a driving rhythm section. There’s a dynamic energy throughout the track, which is powered by vocal-centric verses that convey the track’s narrative, before we’re hit with an explosive chorus that sees frontwoman Andrea McKenzie’s commanding voice soaring over the fiery instrumentation.
According to the band, ‘Hate Girls’ is about “rejoicing in the people that hate you, because it gives you adrenaline and we get a kick out of the drama”. Instead of grief and sadness, Furlong revels in the awkwardness, in a way that is empowering through its high energy and fun nature.
