Staying In with Meaghan Weiley
Words by James Lynch
Thursday 1st October, 2020
While our days in lockdown keep ticking by, we’ve been taking a moment to check in on some favourite locals to find out what they’re doing with their time in isolation.
I’ve realised since starting these Homebodies articles, that the little intro blurbs get harder and harder to write the busier the person is.

There’s not really a succinct way to note down all the different things Meaghan Weiley does - she’s a member of House Deposit and Dragnet and earlier this year released her debut solo cassette Coruscant, she’s a regular on the airwaves on Triple R and recently started presenting her own show (tune into The Aquarium), she runs a semi-regular zine, works behind the scenes at The Curtin, and in a normal world, you’d kinda just bump into her all the time because she’s such a genuine champion of the local community. I feel like I’ve forgotten some stuff too, but that’s life hey?

Here's what Meaghan has been doing with her downtime recently.

What are you reading?
Every single tweet Kanye has posted this past month. On God.

What are you watching?
I've just rewatched Genndy Tartakovksy's Primal in preparation for the season's new episodes. Man... it's so awesome. It's about a caveman and a dinosaur, brought together by tragic circumstances. They just live life together. It's so sad and brutal... truly epic.

What are you listening to?
I've got the new Joji record on repeat. Also smashing heaps of Springsteen, The Replacements, Descendents, Digable Planets, Drop Nineteens, Playboi Carti, Vanessa Worm, Stuck, Haircut One Hundred, Landowner, Lily & Horn Horse. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion soundtrack. Fall Out Boy's From Under The Cork Tree. Sven Libaek’s Inner Space.

Oh! And Paul’s Boutique by Beastie Boys! I listen to it almost every day.

What’s keeping you busy?
Gardening and hosting a Midnight Sun book club. I've also been writing a fair bit of music - I'm teaching myself how to use GarageBand so I don't have to write and record songs on my phone anymore lol. My biggest accomplishment has been recreating the Travis Scott autotune. As I type this I've literally just been sitting in my room saying "yah" and "it's lit" into a mic for an hour.

Anything you're doing differently?
Doing radio from home is a big one - missing hanging out in the studio a lot. But it's been a great learning curve in recording, curating, and putting a whole show together.

What’s something keeping you inspired?
Positive Mental Attitude. Shared creative energy. Community radio. The Tweedy Show. Really funny TikToks. Simping. The sun. My Aeropress. Adam Driver. Timothée Chalamet. Knowing I can give everyone I know a really big hug soon 😙.
Keep up with Meags by following her below, and tune into The Aquarium at 4am every Monday night/Tuesday morning on Triple R (or listen back here!).
