Navigating the genre of post punk, Placement have burst onto the scene forging a unique sound that incorporates instrumental distortion, scratchy saxophone notes and anomalous guitar riffs, and with the release of their new clip for ‘Harder’ today, they’ve offered us another teaser into their disorientating sonic world.
Following on from the release of ‘Harder’ in January this year, rising noise-rock group Placement have today shared a dark and unnerving visualisation into the world of the track.
Set in a desolate and decrepit house, painted all white, a powerful strobe tracks the movements of a lonely and mystical entity as it dances and attempts to skulk its way through the seemingly abandoned house. The individual appears to possess human aesthetic but is shielded by a handmade face mask which could be interpreted as the unearthing of concealed anxieties. This narrative is juxtaposed by footage of the band rocking out in a room littered with used mattresses, old furniture, and harsh fluorescent lighting.
The music video encapsulates a sense of eeriness, created by both the lone masked character and the unique sound of Placement’s instrumentals, exacerbating the already descriptive and isolating lyrics.
With abstract editing techniques overlapping multiple frames of the band members, the track seems to crescendo into a final augmented collaboration of guitar feedback, wild saxophone sounds, and a sturdy drum beat all emphasising the mystery of the supernatural figure featured in the video.
It’s a thrilling visual introduction to the band that perfectly pairs with the track’s controlled chaos, setting the five-piece up as ones to watch as they continue to establish this distinct sound from Kaurna Land (Adelaide).
