Sirens - The Valley
Sirens - The Valley
For the first time anywhere, immerse yourself in the mystical world of the Bellarine Peninsula’s newest hitmakers Sirens. We have the absolute pleasure of premiering the clip for their dreamy debut single ‘The Valley’ today, alongside the announcement of their forthcoming self-titled EP out in October through Bonsai Records.
Though this is their first recorded offering, Sirens have been kicking around for years. Their first big break was playing Geelong’s Superfuzz music festival; since then, they’ve worked hard playing gigs with the strong, nurturing community of bands hailing from the Bellarine (a peninsula west of Geelong, including a few towns like Ocean Grove). One of the key players in this community is Bonsai Records, who already boast a roster of Bones and Jones and Pollyman. It’s to this label that Sirens have signed, recording their debut with Bones and Jones mastermind Jasper Jolley.
‘The Valley’ is a compelling entrance for the band, showcasing their blend of Julia Jacklin-esque folk rock and psychedelic-tinged dream pop that’ll undoubtedly win them many new fans. The track opens with a meandering instrumental adorned with pretty, melodic electric piano, giving way to ethereal vocals which build through to an expansive chorus of stacked harmonies. A highlight is the extended bridge built around a delightful mellotron hook, which transitions deftly into a heavy guitar-driven breakdown before fading into a chorus.
The accompanying clip is visually striking, with a strong 60's flowerchild aesthetic complete with flowing white dresses, sunshine filtering through the trees and a fuzzy Super-8 wash. According to the band, “the video is about the transition into adulthood. We wanted to create a visual interpretation of a nostalgic valley where old friends and relationships lie. As we move on from the chapters of the past, we sing of missing the playfulness and innocence of being a child. Remembering never to leave it all behind, but to embrace curiosity throughout life.”
