So, what’s it to you?

There’s a comfort in listening to Snowy. As someone who can moonlight as a reliable member of your band, to then solely cast a room into a sombre awe, Snowy is an ever inspiring source of distant familiarity within Melbourne’s music scene.
Following the release of Snowy Band's new LP Alternate Endings last week, we sat down with Snowy and asked a few brief questions on records in his life.

The record that reminds you of beauty in simplicity

This album is strikingly beautiful in how stark and unique it is. It scared the shit out of me when I
first heard it but I couldn’t stop coming back. It sounds like it was made by aliens. An all-timer for me.

This is the last record that I bought. I got it for myself for my birthday and put in a request for it to be delivered with a well-wishing message included. The track ‘I Found One Thing’ is probably the best song I’ve ever heard.
A record that constantly inspires

Maybe my favourite album. Now that I’m trying I can’t think of a better one. Truly Holy are the best band and this album is a masterpiece, start-to-finish.
The record you were glad to be a part of

Life at Sea - Velcro
There was a time (2011) when I reckon Velcro were the best band in Melbourne - even if we only ever really played to ourselves at rehearsals in Curtis’ bedroom. This live album captures a really brief window of the original three-piece version of the band and documents this totally formative time in my life where I met a million people and played a million gigs in a million crappy bands and it felt like anything was possible.
The record with 'that groove'

Hot Palms - Hot Palms
Hot Palms were the best band (thankfully Alec, Ashley and Jordan from the band now exist as Blue Divers) and this is their definitive recorded document. My favourite bands are often the ones that feel like they could fall apart (or fall asleep) at any moment. That’s the groove I want to hear. I never knew when a Hot Palms song was starting or finishing. Was there ever really songs at all? Mysteriously, this album isn’t streamable on the Bandcamp for some reason but if you ask me I’ll lend you the CD.
The record that gave you a sense of self

Bravo! - Eggy
This album wasn’t a watershed moment or some formative musical event for me (I don’t think I’ll ever get close to the life-altering highs of watching Pearl Jam DVDs after school in my teens) but during the thick-of-it, mid-2020, the one thing I needed more than anything (still do) was a connection back to what I love about the local scene. Opening track ‘Johnny Whoop’ is an all-time classic. The whole album is a compete freak-show IMO and if you tried to fault Eggy then you’d be wrong. A perfect album from the perfect band.
Alternate Endings is out now through Spunk Records and Osborne Again - head to snowynasdaq.bandcamp.com to grab the album on limited vinyl.
