Metdog - Certified Lover Dog

Ahead of its release tomorrow via the newly minted Critter Records, today we’ve got the pleasure of sharing a first spin of Metdog’s new EP Certified Lover Dog, a gloriously zany blitz through their absurd brand of garage-punk.
Hot on the heels of their debut album Cars 4 which just came out in July, local powerhouse Metdog are back with another instalment of their eccentric garage-punk mayhem. Picking up where Cars 4 left off, Certified Lover Dog is seven minutes of urgent and freaked-out punk goodness.

Opening track ‘The Cusp’ is one of Metdog’s strongest moments yet, a two minute flurry of sharp guitars, machine-gun drums and helium vocals; all warped and wacky and completely addictive. Next up, ‘Panic Attack’ takes notes from its title and builds an unsettling and relentless atmosphere, loaded with anxious energy as it unravels around a haphazard groove.

The chaos doesn’t stop on the second half of the tape (for the remaining three minutes that is), with the hyperactive ‘Bins at Barkley Square’ playing as a blur of garage guitars, frantic bass and scrappy synth, all while Metdog’s reliable smirk radiates from the sprawl. Finally, ‘Last Chance on a Full Moon’ pushes the weirdness one step further with its giddy alien vocals and frantic instrumentation, before the track eventually collapses in on itself and brings the EP to a thrilling close.

With an extremely limited run of just five cassette tapes, you’d be hard pressed to get your hands on a copy; but at this rate, it’s likely the next Metdog release is already on the way so fans won’t have to wait long for another serving of their loveable madness.

Certified Lover Dog is out everywhere tomorrow through Critter Records.
