Friday 18th February, 2022
Today we have the pleasure of sharing the immersive new single from Geelong pop-rockers The White Flower Society - both subtle and all-encompassing, ‘Certainty’ comes as a shimmering next step for the eight-piece that highlights the expansive scope of the group.
Following on from their radiant debut EP Another Shumba, which introduced the project to the sound of playful instrumentation and contagious energy, and their serene collaboration with Bonsoi on their 2021 single ‘Take My Hand’, the release of ‘Certainty’ today catches The White Flower Society comfortably stepping into their own signature sound. While the project found life during 2020’s lockdown, now two years on, we can hear the eight-piece’s undeniable group chemistry as they share their most assured and evocative music to date.

Opening with the unhurried sway of an acoustic guitar, ‘Certainty’ expands into a kaleidoscope of rich horns, chiming leadlines and an alluring groove. Where on previous releases it seemed like vocalist/guitarist Mitch Collins preferred to let the instrumentation do the talking, on this track he’s clearly found his own voice; emerging with a deep and brooding swagger, his vocals are equally wide-eyed and wistful, adding an emotional potency to the shimmering layers of sound.

Crucially resisting the urge to let the song explode, after a couple of verses the track opts to blossom open slowly, unravelling into a stunning outro that truly highlights the band’s strengths and after a run of charismatic horn hooks and an expressive guitar break, ‘Certainty’ lilts off leaving us in a glorious haze.

'Certainty' is out everywhere today. Catch The White Flower Society launching the single on Sunday March 13th at The Barwon Club (grab a ticket here) or Friday April 22nd at The Retreat Hotel (grab a ticket here).
