Today we’ve got the pleasure of premiering the shapeshifting new clip for ‘Growth’ from Melbourne electronic artist Celiac, alongside the news of the forthcoming re-release of her 2020 EP MatchSticks II through Off The List Records.
For more than a decade, under her Celiac moniker Miel Balestrat has crafted vivid and experimental electronica from her bedroom in Melbourne. Her latest EP MatchSticks II dropped in late 2020, released to marked the 10 year anniversary of Miel’s first foray into music making. Another year or so on, Off The List Records have stepped forward to give the project the spotlight it deserves, hosting Celiac at an access-friendly event for Brunswick Music Festival on March 5th as well as giving MatchSticks II its first physical release.
To mark the occasion, today Celiac has shared with us a brand new clip for ‘Growth’, a highlight from MatchSticks II that tangles dark and visceral electronics with her compelling songwriting smarts. Constantly evolving, ‘Growth’ takes shape around an intoxicatingly uneasy synth line, before bursting open with a propulsive backbeat and Miel’s subversive vocals.
Paired with the new clip, which plays as a screencast that combines video of Miel at home alongside warped computer visuals, we’re offered an extra insight into Celiac’s world; whether that’s through catching a glimpse of the song’s Ableton session, watching Miel relaxing on her bed or as she stares down the camera while taking tablets at the clip's end. Simultaneously restless and immersive, it’s a galvanising introduction for new listeners, blending its gritty, relentless groove and the shapeshifting visuals to lull us into a murky dream-state.

Presented by Off The List Records, Celiac will be performing at an access-friendly matinee show at The Brunswick Ballroom on Saturday March 5th as part of Brunswick Music Festival - tickets are available here. Matchsticks II will be available to purchase on limited cassette on the day.
