Dianas - Little Glimmer
Dianas - Little Glimmer
Ahead of their Little Glimmer album launch tomorrow night at the Curtin in Melbourne, today we’ve been treated to a brand new video clip from dream-pop trailblazers Dianas, a surreal and shapeshifting visual joyride into the world of the album's thrilling title track.
Dianas have forever been a band that are impossible to place, and their third album Little Glimmer, released last November, was no different. Across these eleven tracks, the trio skipped between styles more eagerly than usual - from the dramatic soft-pop of ‘Ice Queen’ to the hypnotic and frenetic ‘Bliss’, and onto ‘Untitled Dance Track’ which seamlessly tied together both sides of Dianas sound with its delicate vocal breaks and exhilarating instrumental tangles.
However, the title track and album centrepiece was a three minute blast that caught Dianas at their most steely and focused. Instead of sprawling between moods, ‘Little Glimmer’ comes loaded top to tail with gritty guitar leads over a careening rhythm section, while their signature crystalline vocals shoot down the centre of the track to invigorate the entire soundscape. Truly revealing the DIY punk backbone that’s always bubbled beneath the surface, ‘Little Glimmer’ plays like an adrenaline rush, thanks to each soaring hook, turbulent drum fill or that all-consuming chorus that manages to overwhelm the track every time it hits in the best possible way.
Out today, the group have shared a brand new clip for the track, created by the band's own Caity Moloney and Tom Mannion, which further amplifies the controlled chaos of Dianas’ sound. Shifting between shots of flamboyant brunches, bougie plane rides and stressful office scenes, the clip is equal parts glamorous, frantic and unsettling, all washed in the same pastel sheen that makes it feel like a warped extension of Dianas’ surreal sonic universe.
