Squid Nebula - Ricochet
Here at Trouble Juice, we couldn’t be more excited to share with you the brand new music video for 'Ricochet', a long-time fan favourite, and the first single released by excessively talented Melbourne based space-jazz quintet Squid Nebula.
The Squids have been busy this year, with two single launches early on, followed by a packed out May residency at the Evelyn in Fitzroy – where they released their long awaited debut EP, their very first day festival at The Gasometer, and most recently, an incredibly successful residency at the world famous Cherry bar on AC/DC lane with local hip-hop party-starters The Stranger Suite. So successful was the double fronted residency that both bands have been invited back for a huge fifth night tonight.
Ricochet, a long-time fan favourite, and the first single released by the excessively talented five piece, received love on many local radio shows in the months following its release and the band have gotten straight to work with local filmmaker Lewis Robert for their debut music video.
When quizzed about his solo venture into constructing a music video near single handedly, Robert told TJ that ‘it was a labour of love which paid off – and inevitably taught me a great deal’. Robert takes inspiration from his love of science fiction films, citing 2001: A Space Odyssey as a major influence for the piece, in which he found a ‘strong theme of separating reality from fantasy’. While the lyrical content and construction of the song propose a variety of themes, namely addiction and temptation, Robert tells us that the piece ‘didn’t need anything added to it, so I was able to explore my own interpretation, rather than focusing heavily on any existing themes’.
