BIGSOUND Showcase
Last month, TJ headed up to Brisbane for BIGSOUND, and with the help of our friends at Baked Goods, we took over Barbara, our favourite little bar in Fortitude Valley, for our own unofficial showcase.
The Brisbane weather was spot on all week, and Wednesday was no exception, which meant it would’ve been rude not to take advantage of Barbara’s excellent Bloody Mary special before the proceedings kicked off. Served with a good dose of spice, the BM in question proved to be a pretty accurate indicator of what was to come from the rest of the day.
Kicking off in the early afternoon with Dianas, we were treated to a captivating start as the room filled up, and Obscura Hail and Fritz kept the blissful vibe going while the sun poured through the windows. Johnny Hunter followed, who turned up the heat with their explosive post-punk and Gena Rose Bruce’s matched it with her enigmatic indie-rock, before the sun finally set and the event rounded out with a bit of a party - firstly with Mambali’s incredible mixture of cultural songs and hard-hitting grooves, before First Beige sent us off with their disco-tinged psychedelia.
Thanks to everyone who made it down throughout the day for a drink, and a special shout-out to anyone who picked up a t-shirt or tote bag - we hope you’re repping it proudly.
If you couldn’t make it, check out the scenes, and if you're keen on some of our new merch, it'll be available here very soon!
