Kicking things off with only a little more than an ominous, shimmering solo guitar to set the scene for what their second album Psychic Retreat may have in store, ‘Seven Day Blues’ is a brooding, bad-trip of a psych jam that feels particularly relevant at the moment. Drawing inspiration from “the sensation of isolation and cabin fever”, the band elaborate that ‘Seven Day Blues’ seemed “like a fitting song to release in the current climate.”

As Black Bats simmer around David Houston’s captivating vocal howl, ‘Seven Day Blues’ bubbles away and gradually builds into a garage-blues trip that feels like it could spiral out of control at any moment. Just before reaching boiling point, seemingly with the snap of their fingers, ‘Seven Day Blues’ drops back to a sleepless garage romp that echoes the track’s hypnotising restless sentiment.

On what to be looking forward to next from The Bats, they assure us, “we’re disappointed that we can’t be playing any live shows to support the single launch, but we thought it would be better to share a few singles in the meantime, and hopefully we will be able to launch the album in a proper fashion later in the year!”
