Darcy Rock - This Doubt
Darcy Rock - This Doubt
Following the release of her debut solo single ‘This Doubt’ earlier this year, today we have a pleasure of sharing the new clip from Darcy Rock, a captivating visual accompaniment that elevates the track’s illusive atmosphere and turbulent themes into something all the more enigmatic.
As the frontperson of grunge-pop trio Tina Growls, Darcy Rock has spent the better part of the last five years developing a distinctive voice for brooding and dynamic alternative-rock. Now with that project on hiatus, she’s taken an extra step forward with her solo project that arrives as a natural expansion of her work in Tina Growls, but doubles to serve as a vehicle to “articulate the nuance of her emotions and process the internal contours of her life”.
While we can hear elements of her previous project on ‘This Doubt’ - whether that be the tangles of eerie guitar or Darcy’s ethereal, floating vocals - her debut solo single is instantly more inward-looking. However, there’s also a new level of self-assurance, Darcy’s songwriting smarts no longer coated beneath layers of grit. Over the track’s near five minute runtime, Darcy sounds simultaneously commanding yet vulnerable, especially so as the instrumental continues to sprawl and unravel freely beneath her shimmering voice.
Today we’ve been offered a first look at the new clip for the track, a completely DIY effort with Darcy the mastermind behind the filming and editing as well as the lone star. It’s an intriguing watch - as a grayscale version of Darcy warps and shifts across the screen over a radiant pink backdrop - but with the revelation that the visuals are to represent Darcy's internal state, there's a weightiness that makes the entire experience all the more immersive and unsettling.
