Keeping on a winning streak of colourful releases and forward-thinking projects, Brisbane-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Hsu and his Obscure Orchestra have returned today with ‘Eat The World’. Matt, the mastermind behind the Orchestra, is a two time QMA winner with a background in social activism and experimental music design, and while ‘Eat The World’ takes a moment pause from his advocacy work, the track instead pairs the playfulness of his orchestral scope and signature mishmash of found sounds with perhaps one of the most universally pleasurable topics of all - eating.

Built around a rich tapestry of instruments that swirl and blend together masterfully (not unlike ingredients in a bowl), ‘Eat The World’ expands with a tangle of native instruments crossed with uncanny sounds like munching chips and a vacuum cleaner, while Matt’s voice chimes earnestly on top. As the story goes, ‘Eat The World’ was written after being directed to eat clean by his doctor, and you can truly hear the sincerity of Matt’s requests in his vocals - as charming as his gentle delivery is, there’s no getting around the fact that this guy needs a feed! Before long, the track swells to include the entire Obscure Orchestra, which perhaps makes the lyric “I want to eat the whole world” feel a little more sinister, but it’s still impossible to deny the sheer joyousness of it all.

Out today is a brand new clip directed by Matt and filmed by Modek Media and Rod Pilbeam. Combining footage of Matt dancing at home, the Obscure Orchestra performing together and Matt indulging in a few meals, it’s just as fun as the song itself (especially if you munch along from home as you watch). The press release describes the clip as Matt’s “dream cheat day”, and with this much colour and charisma loaded in, it’s equally as enticing on the eyes as it is your salivary glands.
