Eleven years on from his last music with The Vasco Era and two years since he shared his debut solo single ‘Nobody Ever Really Had a Home’, Sid O’Neil has today released ‘No Answer’, a new dose of illusive synth-led art-pop that doubles as a starting point for the long reveal of his pending album It's a Fuckin Paper Moon - with one track to be unveiled every month until the full album drops next year.

Built around a swirl of looming synthesisers, ‘No Answer’ emerges slowly; first with a cloud of noise, before a sharp synth cuts through the haze followed by Sid’s restless vocals. Although fairly stripped back, the track instantly feels dense and overwhelming, and beneath Sid’s gently soaring falsetto is an undeniable sense of turbulence that permeates the entire song. Somehow, across ‘No Answer’ Sid manages to sound both candid and evasive, as if he’s speaking directly to us in code, all while Mikey Young’s added sounds make the track feel all the more ephemeral and fleeting.

Speaking about the track, Sid tell us “All the lyrics are from ages ago when I took too many drugs and went to hospital / tried to die. I feel better now but it took a long time to put the words to music. It is part of an hour of music that's all one long song thing. I'm going to put out one song or section each month and then the whole album next year. The next one has heaps of yelping it you are into that. I did a slow one first to get you to come watch me at Winter Wild in the church. If you are wondering why I am singing about forever ago it's because things take a long time to process and it took a while to get the right music for the words. Mikey was a big help with that.”
